● Earlier we needed to write letters to express our thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a proper way, but nowadays mobile phone as well as internet connectivity has replaced letter to a great extent, but the necessity of letter writing still exists for numerous purposes.
● Letter writing is the greatest form of communication in which we can share our feelings, persuade someone towards a specific direction, inform offices what we need, and tell newspapers about all the problems we face as responsible citizens of society till now. There are mainly two types of letters- i)formal letters and ii)informal letters.

There should be six parts in a formal letter-
(i) Address-The address of the receiver of a letter should be written on the right side and the date should be mentioned below the receiver’s address.
(iii)Salutation-Respected Sir, Sir.
(iv) Body -The body of the letter should consist of three paragraphs -a) Introduction, b) problem or theme c)Request or conclusion
(v)Subscription-Yours faithfully, Yours sincerely
(vi)Signature-The name of the sender should be written on the left side after the end of the letter, though it can be written on the right side also.

Respected Sir,
Subject: Request to take drastic action to stop the random usage of plastic bags and cups
Through your esteemed daily I want to draw your kind attention to a serious concern which is the random use of plastic bags and cups. Most of the vendors pack all stationary items in plastic bags, and common people use plastic bags to carry all the necessary commodities. This way a great number of people get themselves used to plastic bags which seem not only portable but also handy and easy to use.
Due to the rampant use of plastic bags and cups, our environment gets polluted, greenhouse gases are increased, the balance of O2 and CO2 gets hampered, many diseases enter our body as permanent guests, and our eco-system, as well as biodiversity, becomes deteriorated day by day, drains are blocked, landslides take place and above all, we are going to be under the realm of a serious threat in terms of our survival and existence of flora and fauna.
As a responsible citizen, I would like to request you to take a drastic step against those people who use plastic bags and cups day by day after knowing all the harmful aspects of plastics which not only pollute our environment but also make our atmosphere unlikeable. I will wait with a little hope that you will give me a little space in your column to raise my voice against the usage of plastics, and surely look after my concern positively.
Yours sincerely,
Aditi Roy

My dear Sujata,
I’m extremely happy to know that you’re preparing for competitions. You asked me about my favourite magazine in the field of competitive examinations. I would suggest you read ‘Pratiyogita Darpan’ that is my favourite one.
‘Pratiyogita Darpan’ is published every month. It is full of information. We gain knowledge of society, politics, economy, and culture in terms of national and international levels from this magazine without using too much time. It consists of several practice sets along with an answer key, which is very useful in revising our lessons. All the contents are accurate and easy to understand in this magazine.
I hope you will get everything that you want in this magazine. Please, don’t hesitate to ask me if you face any problems understanding any concept of this magazine.
Take care of yourself and transmit my respect to your parents and my love to your brother and sister.
