In the poem “Bright Star’, the poet wishes to be fixed and unchanging in his love like the pole star is fixed and does not change its place and position in the sky. According to the poet, the pole star remains lonely with its brightness in the sky at night, opening its eyes eternally like an admirer of nature and a sleepless hermit. It watches how the rise and the fall of the tides spiritually purify humans’ mischiefs and sins or gazes at the snow covering the mountains and the open fields. But the poet- does not like to have all the qualities of the Pole Star as he does not want to be solitary and non-human like the Pole Star, but he wants to be steadfast and unchangeable while resting upon his beloved’s breast. He wants to remain there to feel the rise and fall of her breast forever. He desires to be sleepless like the pole star and enjoy unrest forever so that he hears her tender-taken breath and live forever. The poet also says he wants to die being fainted if being with his beloved is not possible.
